Scoliosis-Specific Exercise
(PSSE)
Scoliosis-specific physical therapy focuses on exercises designed just for scoliosis. Scoliosis isn’t only a structural curve—there’s also a flexible, postural component influenced by muscles, soft tissues, and your nervous system, including balance and center of gravity. By targeting this postural component, therapy can help reduce the risk of the curve progressing and support your overall movement goals.
The therapy plan has three main components:
We train your body to improve scoliosis posture and spinal shape based on the “vicious cycle” model, which shows how poor posture can contribute to curve progression. Exercises strengthen the muscles that maintain better posture, and you and your family will receive guidance to help manage scoliosis effectively in everyday life.
What my clients are saying
“Kathleen has been really great to work with, and has helped me manage my scoliosis better than multiple other doctors and physical therapists. I was interested in the Rigo Schroth method for scoliosis, but was not sure the investment in time would be worth it. I wish I hadn't waited. By working with Kathleen I now understand the curvature of my spine more, have simple and reproducible exercises to help lessen the muscle strain, which lessens pain and spasms, and improves my activities. I have learned some of the approaches I used to do to "fix" my curve were actually worsening it, and now am improving my spine from the root of the problem. Kathleen is easy to communicate with and takes the time to address what is happening in each session.”
