Lifestyle Medicine for Pain,

Healing, and Resilience

Kate’s belief in holistic, whole-person care is reflected in her certification in Lifestyle Medicine.

Lifestyle Medicine focuses on healthy daily habits that have a big impact on pain, inflammation, healing, and tissue resiliency. These factors are often overlooked in treatment, but they are critical for recovery and whole body health. For example, chronic stress, sleep debt, and alcohol use can affect the nervous system in ways that increase pain, slow tissue repair, and delay recovery from injury. Over the years, I’ve also realized that you can’t “exercise away” a diet that doesn’t properly fuel your body.

  • Nutrition

Anti-inflammatory foods that support joint, muscle, and tissue health.

  • Movement

Exercise, strength, and mobility work to improve function and overall well-being.

  • Sleep

Restorative sleep for tissue repair and nervous system recovery.

  • Stress Management

Mindfulness, breathing, and other strategies to calm the nervous system.

  • Social Connection

Emotional support and meaningful relationships to buffer stress and improve wellness.

  • Avoiding Harmful Substances

Minimizing habits like smoking or excess alcohol that impair healing.

When these lifestyle strategies are combined with physical therapy, they help manage conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain, musculoskeletal injuries, and postural dysfunction. This holistic approach supports whole-body health, resilience, and generalized wellness.
